At Frontier Firearms we strive to develop each student's skills by offering the most effective, realistic training possible. We deliver superior instruction at prices everyone can afford.  

Our outstanding curriculum is designed to advance civilians through each level of armed self-defense including beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Rest assured that our instructors are NRA Certified as both instructors and Range Safety Officers and each is nationally certified in his or her respective discipline.  In addition, at Frontier I promise you won't be subjected to boot camp mentality or treated in any way but with the utmost respect.

At Frontier we understand our regularly scheduled classes may be difficult for some to attend and that others may prefer small group or one-on-one instruction.  Thus, we offer private courses and lessons by appointment. Please contact us at 865.376.0793 with your questions and/or desire to schedule an appointment.

Pregnant women are discouraged from shooting. No late pregnancy shooters allowed due to health concerns from sound percussion. Call if you have any questions 865.376.0793.

Women's Handgun

Women's Handgun, "Taught by Women for Women": There is no need to be afraid of handguns and this course will teach you why. Its true women confront serious threats today - threats men don't face. This makes it even more important for women to know how to use a handgun for self-defense. Take this course as a preparation for the TN Handgun Carry Permit Class or simply to brush up on skills you haven't used recently. The focus here is on safe gun handling and basic marksmanship. After learning about the types and functions of different handguns, we will help maximize your ability to deliver accurate hits with a handgun - pistol or revolver. Women's Handgun also covers weapons presentation, ready positions, loading/unloading, malfunction clearances, carry positions, movement, and more. Upon completion of the handgun fundamentals, you will have will have a solid foundation in the fundamentals of handgun safety and marksmanship and you will be ready for more in-depth training. Open to women of all ages. Students under 18 must have parental consent. Length: 4 hours.

You will need a handgun, 100 rounds of ammunition, ear and eye protection (or use ours) and comfortable clothing. If you need a handgun, contact us - we can provide what you need.

NRA Basic Pistol Shooting

NRA Basic Pistol Shooting: This is THE course for beginners of those looking to for formal handgun training. This 8-hour course includes classroom and range time encompassing shooting revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. You will learn NRA rules for safe gun handling, pistol parts and operation, ammunition, shooting fundamentals, range rules, cleaning the pistol, and continued opportunities for skill development. You will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination. Open to men and women of all ages including juveniles. Students under 18 must have parental consent. Course length: 8 hours.

Upon completion you will receive the NRA course completion certificate, a $10 off coupon for your next class, and two Free Frontier Range passes so you can practice your newly acquired skills.


You will need 100 rounds of ammunition, comfortable clothing, pencil and paper, eye and ear protection (or use ours) and a handgun (or rent from us).

Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit

Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit: 

Our course is taught at our state inspected and certified handgun academy and indoor shooting range by instructors who are all State and nationally certified instructors as well as NRA certified Range Safety Officers. Class consists of classroom training and live-fire range qualification. For more information or questions feel free to call 865.376.0793. This course is open to men and women. Students must be within three months of twenty first birthday. Mandatory class length is 8 hours.

As required by the State of Tennessee all students must successfully pass this class to qualify for a Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit. 

In the Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit class you will learn about the
  • Permit qualification and application process
  • Firearm safety and maintenance
  • State and Federal relating to handgun carry
  • When the the use of deadly force may be justified
  • Criminal and civil ramifications resulting from the use of deadly force
  • Basic handgun and ammunition instruction
  • Basic firing range protocol and marksmanship
All students must pass a short written exam and a course of handgun fire or shooting qualification (let us know if you have special needs for either the written exam or range portion of the class).
 
The shooting qualification takes place in our modern, clean indoor range and consists of firing forty-eight rounds: 12 rounds at 3 yards, 24 rounds at 7 yards, and 12 rounds at 15 yards.  Students are NOT required to shoot the same handgun that they later may wish carry.  So feel free to bring and shoot your 22 pistol or revolver. 

Graduates of this course receive the certification certificate of successful completion required to apply for a Handgun Carry Permit in the State of Tennessee.  In addition, all students receive a Certificate of Completion suitable for framing, and coupons good toward purchase in our store, range time, or dollars off on their next class.
 
For this course you will need:
  • 50 rounds of ammunition
  • Comfortable clothing
  • Pencil and paper
  • Eye and ear protection (or use ours)
  • A handgun (or rent from us)
  • A Snack or bag lunch (or you will have time leave for lunch)
BEFORE taking the Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit Course*, you MUST be able to safely operate the handgun you plan to use in class including how to operate the safety, load, fire, and unload the firearm - there can be no exceptions to this rule.

Students may rent handguns for qualification including ammunition for $15.
 
Seats in our classes are limited and cannot be reserved without payment.  You may register and pay on-line or you may come to the store at least one day before the class.

* The Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit course is designed for shooters with prior handgun experience. First time shooters or those with limited experience with handguns should seek instruction prior to signing up for this class.  If you have any questions regarding your experience or have concerns about passing, we urge you to take advantage of your FREE RANGE PASS by visiting us a day or two BEFORE your Carry Permit Class so that we may assess your skill and help you if necessary. Defensive Pistol I

Defensive Pistol: You've taken the first steps - you have a handgun and a carry permit. The next step in self-defense preparedness is to advance your shooting skills. At Frontier Firearms Training Academy we can help prepare you for daily carry and against the unfortunate confrontation that may require the use of deadly force. Perhaps you just completed a basic pistol class and now you want to go to progress to the next level of training. Or like many others you’re a lifelong shooter but have never experience professional firearms instruction and now want to develop your self-defense and combat pistol skills. In either case, our Defensive Pistol course should be your next step in perfecting your handgun skills.

In this course, while improving your speed and accuracy, you will learn how you react and then how you should react to stress. You will discover your limitations AND strengths. Most of all you will learn the need to MOVE and then how to move when danger strikes! In Defensive Pistol the course goal is to promote handgun safely while developing a reasonable level of marksmanship and combat skill. Through classroom and range instruction you be immersed in handgun - range safety, marksmanship, pistol presentation and recovery.

Team taught by highly trained, skilled professionals the Defensive Pistol course is a full 10 hours over two nights. Included in this course are proper draw techniques, firing positions, CQT, shooting on the move at a single and multiple targets, shoot-don't-shoot, malfunction drills and much more. No matter your level of proficiency, expect to come out of this course a better marksman and even more important an individual less likely to be labeled "VICTIM" in the aftermath of a shooting. No one needs to end up on the inside of a chalk-line! Course open to men and women. Students under 21 must attend with a parent, be active duty military, or a full time police officer. Ten Hour Course.

Upon completion you will receive the a Certificate of Training and a $10 off coupon for your next course at Frontier Firearms Training Academy

You will need 200 rounds of ammunition, a suitable carry holster, extra magazine holder(s), street clothes as you would wear on a daily basis, eye protection (or use ours - we provide electronic ear protection for this course), pencil and paper, and the handgun you normally carry or plan to carry.

Carry for Life!© Defensive Pistol II

Carry for Life!© Defensive Pistol II: After our Defensive Pistol course this is your next step in advancing your shooting skills. In this class through speed and accuracy drills, you continue to perfect your firearms skills while building upon our Defensive Pistol I. Face new challenges as environmental factors are introduced. Carry for Life!© encompasses the entire spectrum of defensive shooting, from the technical aspects of firearm handling, marksmanship, and tactics to conflict avoidance, mental and situational awareness as well as establishing the combat mindset – i.e., the capability and willingness to protect loved ones and yourself.

You will learn the best techniques for safely and competently manipulating your firearm through all procedures, including tactical and emergency techniques for loading and unloading, malfunction clearances, chamber-check and presentation options. You will focus on perfectly controlling sight alignment, sight picture and trigger pressure to achieve rapid, repeatable and accurate hits on target. You will learn to maintain a condition of relaxed alertness that allows you to anticipate and, if possible, avoid conflict – but, if necessary, to take immediate and appropriate action to survive a lethal threat. You will thoroughly understand the legal liabilities and responsibilities you accept when you carry a firearm.

Our nationally accredited instructors provide the best possible class room instruction and demonstration as they introduce you to different open and concealed carry holster types, discuss and demonstrate pros and cons of each, and teach the proper techniques for presentation and holstering your firearm for each holster type. You will practice against a wide variety of targets - moving and stationary as you progress through various qualifications, exercises and marksmanship drills. Focus throughout Carry for Life!© Defensive Pistol II is on applying the basics under stress.

Course is open to both men and women who have successfully completed our Defensive Pistol I or a course equivalent.

Students under 21 must attend with a parent, be active duty military, or a full time police officer. 12 hours. Certificate of Achievement upon completion.

You will need 500 rounds of ammunition, a suitable carry holster, extra magazine holder(s), street clothes as you would wear on a daily basis, eye protection (or use ours - we provide electronic ear protection for this course), pencil and paper, and the handgun you normally carry or plan to carry
